LeavesMASH is here to listen to the needs identified by the community. Community engagement is key.
TrunkYou can't fix what you don't address. MASH is here to help support the community's needs.
RootsFormulating plans and logical courses of action are an integral part of the support MASH provides.
The MASH Coalition was formed in 2006. It began with 25 people who were intent on stamping out substance abuse and underage drinking. However, it was kind of like crickets on your patio. There were pests to be stamped out, but we had no plan. Cindy Schaider, from the Casa Grande Alliance, helped with a plan. With her focus, tremendous expertise and considerable help, we were able to get the MASH Coalition up and running.
Our Mission is to provide resources, promoting citizen engagement and creating innovative programs to help prevent and reduce substance abuse in this community.
The MASH Coalition is named for the communities it serves. M-A-S-H is an acronym for Maricopa, Ak-Chin Indian Community, Stanfield, and Hidden Valley. These core areas in western Pinal County make up the community including and surrounding Maricopa. Substance abuse knows no boundaries and the MASH Coalition recognizes that.
Our purposes are several fold: 1) Provide information about the dangers of substance abuse. 2) Provide opportunities to have an positive impact on the community. 3) Provide members and opportunity to be proactive in the community. 4) Provide an opportunity for young people to define goals and become active.
The only cost is time.
Our position is to have a community driven organization. The community volunteers identify the issue and together come up with actions to address the concerns.

Alcohol and Other Depressants
Because alcohol is legal for adults, some people mistakenly believe that it is safe. But alcohol - including wine, beer, and hard liquour - is a powerful depressant.
