    How to tell if someone I know is using Meth…

    • They often appear restless, anxious, and very talkative.
    • They speak quickly and in fragments
    • They can show impaired judgment, hallucinations, paranoia and increased aggression.
    • They can experience what is known as amphetamine psychosis 36 to 48 hours after taking a large dose of Meth. The effects of this can include hallucinations and delusions.
    • Decrease in weight.
    • Crash cycles - a time when meth users are coming off of their highs and can sleep for days at a time and experience anxiety and depression.  Suicide can often be a concern during this time.
    • A decrease of hygiene and personal care.


    • Skin rashes and lesions occur that often times don’t heal.


      • Reckless behavior including unwanted and unprotected sex.
      • Selling off personal belongings such as stereos.
      • Experiencing difficulties at school including a drop in grades or skipping classes
      • Hanging around a new group of friends.

       How to tell if you need help with a Meth addiction…

      • You are using more Meth than you intended
      • You need more Meth to feel high
      • More of your income is going towards Meth than your bills
      • You are constantly thinking about the next time you are going to be able to get high
      • Responsibilities are no longer taking priority and you are planning activities around Meth.
      • Interest is lost in friends and activities that you used to enjoy
      • Family and friends are letting you know that they are concerned about your new lifestyle
      • Daily routines such as bathing, eating, and sleeping are no longer important.

      How to tell if a parent needs help…

      • They have a poor attitude about having to go to work or about having missed work.
      • They are borrowing money and/or selling or pawning possessions
      • They are gone a lot at night and with people who you do not know
      • Their attitudes have changed in a negative way and they are having sudden temper outbursts.
      • Their appearance is changing for the worse: hair, skin, and teeth

      How to tell if your community needs help…

      • There are open windows with fans during all seasons
      • You see areas making a very large effort to ensure privacy
      • Increase in traffic in and out of a house at all times of the day
      • There are homes that always have their curtains drawn
      • Garbage contains contents you would find in a Meth lab
      • The people living there seem to be unemployed, yet they have money to pay their bills
      • Very strong or unusual odors like ether, ammonia or acetone coming from home
